In 1993, Dr. Richard Miller and Shauna Weis founded Environmental Safety Technologies, Inc. (EST), a unique collaboration bringing together two areas of science: microbiology and industrial hygiene. Since our inception, we have provided our customers the highest level of science and service to facilitate healthy and safe environments in a wide variety of industries. EST has the knowledge, experience, and expertise to bring specialty services related to microbiology and indoor air quality to you.
To build on this expertise EST has pursued many educational and accreditation opportunities for the laboratory and our staff. In 2005, we became an AIHA-LAP, LLC Accredited Environmental Microbiology Laboratory. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) invited us to participate in the pilot ELITE Program (Environmental Legionella Isolation Techniques Evaluation Program) and deemed us a proficient Legionella laboratory in 2010. We are also recognized as an American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) employer of council certified personnel.
EST employees are active members of the following organizations and serve on special committees and boards: American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA-LAP, LLC), Association of Water Technologies (AWT), American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE), Kentucky Society of Healthcare Engineers (KSHE), American Hospital Association (AHA), Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), American Indoor Air Quality Council, Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA), Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and American Society of Microbiology (ASM).
Although we specialize in Legionella analyses and investigation, we provide a wide variety of indoor air quality and environmental microbiology services. These include outbreak investigations of Legionella, fungal infections, or other microbiological pathogens for the healthcare industry, cruise ship industry, educational facilities (elementary through university), long term care facilities, food and industrial manufacturing facilities and retail office properties. We also do consultation and environmental testing for infection prevention on hospital construction projects in conjunction with training for contractors and hospital personnel.
Each year we face additional business challenges, but we measure success by annually exceeding our corporate expectations, delivering the very best service at a fair price to our customers, achieving customer respect and providing educational seminars for our customers and provide educational opportunities for our employees so that they may provide the highest level of competent work to our customers.
EST has always prioritized our responsibility to protect both people and the environment. Our commitment to environmental awareness and preservation is reflected throughout our business. In 2008 we began a Pollution Prevention and Recycling Program; both are designed to reduce waste, conserve natural resources, and lessen the impact on the environment. Through this program ALL plastic containers and cardboard packaging that we receive in our laboratory are recycled.
Environmental Safety Technologies, Inc. (EST) is excited to announce it has joined the IEH Laboratory and Testing Group (IEH). IEH operates over a hundred ISO17025 accredited laboratories across North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia offering full microbiological and chemistry testing services.
IEH is an innovative company whose core principles align with EST for guiding customers through risk mitigation and pioneering solutions for the food, pharma, healthcare and environmental microbiological testing and consulting needs. IEH is a recognized global leader in food safety testing and consulting services with a commitment to providing dynamic food safety solutions delivering cost- and time-saving solutions at the highest level of quality.
EST’s extensive experience and expertise in Legionella and healthcare allows IEH to expand its services into these critically important fields. While the move under IEH’s corporate umbrella allows EST to leverage a vast network of laboratories and suppliers to provide you even more service than before. All the great things you value in EST are unchanged. The focus on customers, service and innovation in laboratory procedures remains directly under the authority of Dr. Richard Miller. He is here to guide EST in this brave new direction, and we look forward to our bright new future together.
