Infection Prevention and Control |
Infection Prevention and Control Environmental Safety Technologies, Inc. has consulted with healthcare organizations across the United States and consulted on thousands of environmental projects including: - Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
- Legionella potable water and cooling tower testing
- Environmental MRSA education and testing
- Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) - Pre-construction, construction and renovation
Global concerns involving the role our environment plays in infection transmission continue to underscore the importance of having a plan that includes evaluating the condition and hygienic nature of the work and care environments. - Indoor air quality assessment has identified fungi that represent significant risks in our environment, especially the immunocompromised and pediatric populations.
- Legionella potable water and cooling tower testing has enabled healthcare and other organizations to identify and eliminate the pathogen, Legionella pneumophila, responsible for potentially fatal pneumonia also known as Legionnaires Disease.
- Environmental assessments involving multi-drug resistant organisms and emerging pathogens, has become increasingly more important due to the impact of community and healthcare-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Our Comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control Policy will be built to suit the needs of your facility. Example criteria: - Infection Prevention and Control Policy will address the endeavor to reduce the exposure and transmission of infections among students, athletes, coaches, and other staff members associated with athletic activities (athletic trainers, sports medicine personnel, building maintenance staff, etc.).
- Training will include the review of the Infection Control Policy with all staff members associated with athletic activities (athletic trainers, sports medicine personnel, building maintenance staff, etc.).
- Optional "Responsible" Environmental testing will be performed at the desired location including the following types of testing.
- Total fungal spore count air and surface samples and building vital signs (temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide) will be collected as part of a general indoor air quality assessment.
- Water samples will be collected from whirlpool spas and pools to determine the presence of Legionella, and pseudomonas in comparison to the total bacteria count.
- Enviro-swab samples will be utilized to collect surface samples for a standard MRSA Screen that includes Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli & Entercocci and Dermatphytes.
- Report of laboratory findings, interpretation and recommendations will be provided to Client including chart of building vital signs, chain of custody form and photographs. All samples will be analyzed by Environmental Safety Technologies, Inc. The only American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Accredited environmental microbiological laboratory in the state of Kentucky.
- Consultation will include services such as sample collection, equipment calibration, sample security, site visits, and communication.
